Top 7 Hotel Hacks
I was thinking about how I could help you while you are traveling this summer and wanted to share some hotel room hacks with you.
You could wire an entire house with the number of phone chargers I have left in hotel rooms. Not a big deal when I’m on my way back home, but if it’s the first stop on a multi-destination trip, it can be frustrating. Fortunately, I have found a way of solving both this minor headache and other common travel issues. Below are 7 of my favorite hotel hacks to prevent those traveling frustrations.
Forgot your charging block? No problem! - Most flat screen tv’s have a USB port on the side or back. Simply plug in your cord and you are good to go. Uh Oh! Forgot your cord too? Travelers leave these behind all the time. You can ask the front desk if they have one in the Lost & Found box that you can borrow. Just remember to return it when you are done
Need a cooler but don’t have a fridge? No Worries! – Use the complimentary ice bucket to get ice from the hotel ice machine. No ice bucket? Use the empty hotel trash can instead. Then simply fill up your sink with the ice and place your items in there to stay cool.
Sunlight waking you up too early? – Often times the hotel curtains don’t close fully, allowing sunlight to wake you up before you are ready. The pants hanger in the closet has clips for hanging your pants. Use those clips to hold the curtains closed.
Need a quick bite to eat? – Not all hotel rooms have microwaves or kitchenettes, but most have some sort of coffee maker. If you are in the mood for ramen or cup of noodles, you can use the coffee pot to make the hot water for your snack.
Keep the A/C on! – As an energy saving measure, many hotels require that you put your room key into a slot on the wall to keep the lights on and the A/C running. However, this may not work for you. In which case, pretty much any appropriately sized card will work. It does not have to be your room key!
Wet Clothes or Dirty Shoes? – It happens to all of us on vacation. When the time comes to pack up, use the ice bucket liner or laundry bag to keep wet or dirty items separated in your suitcase.
Need extra dining space? – While most hotel rooms have a desk or a coffee table, travelers may need additional space to eat. In this case, the ironing board can be used as a table. Place a towel down as a tablecloth and use the bed as a bench. Bonus, it adjusts for height!
Unsure which hotels offer the best amenities or the best place to stay during your travels? Or simply don’t have time to figure it all out yourself. I’d love to help!
